Board Treasurer - My name is Maria Barrera, and I am in the 12th grade. I moved from Mexico to New York in 2016. SPEAK has taught me new and important skills as well as teaching me to be a leader in my community. When I joined, I had limited knowledge of the English language, but, over time, and with the help of SPEAK, I became more confident and improved a lot in my speaking and writing skills. My goal by serving on the Junior Board is to help other young immigrants like me to become leaders and to pursue their dreams no matter what.
